Cyberattack Suspends Banks in New Zealand
On September 8, a cyberattack temporarily disrupted the work of ANZ, New Zealand’s largest bank, and a number of other financial institutions, as well as the country’s national post service.
Due to the cyber attack, some services stopped working, in particular, Internet banking and the goMoney app.
The problem also affected the state-owned bank Kiwibank, which said it was working to restore access to its application, Internet banking, telephone banking, and website.
At the moment, it is unclear who is behind the cyberattack and whether it resulted in a data breach.
Hackers Steal Data from Neuchâtel Cantonal Bank
Neuchâtel Cantonal Bank fell victim to a cyber attack from 4 to 5 August. Attackers managed to exploit a flaw on the CBN website to steal customer data.
The hackers were unable to break into the banking infrastructure – in particular the electronic banking platform – or any other systems. Nevertheless, the hackers stole the email addresses of 1500 bank’s clients.
Despite the leak, some of the data has already lost its relevance. Bank Cantonal Neuchâtel has already assured customers of the security of the system. According to the credit institution’s assessment, the gap was closed, so the system is currently adequately protected from the threat of a hacker attack.
